Exercise selection – what looks good on paper may not be good for you
.
There is no right or wrong exercise. Choosing the best exercise for you is dependent on a few factors, including
.
🔸goals
🔸mobility
🔸injuries
🔸structure (torso, arms, legs)
🔸personal preference
.
For example, all the magazine will say the Flat bench press is the king of all chest exercises, not if you have poor Thoracic/shoulder mobility and struggle to activate your chest. Ignore what’s in the magazines and do what’s right for you at that present time…the advice is generic and not designed for YOU. Maybe
.
In this example, I show 2 squat variations. The barbell squat is known as the king of leg exercises, which i am not doubting. However if you suffer with back pain, poor shoulder, hip/ankle mobility, new to squats or low in confidence, then back squats may not be the best choice, so will opt for goblet squats or box squats before progressing to back squats
.
You could argue against the point above and say you are plastering over the cracks, which you are to some extent, but the goal would always to improve mobility over time and build up to the barbell squat.
.
To summarise, pick and exercise that is best for you, not what the magazine or your favourite influencer is doing.
